Negative Language to Replace

Tips on how to be more mindful of your language

  • Instead of labeling foods as good or bad, think of why some foods can help you grow strong and other foods are just fun “sometimes” foods

  • Become more aware of how pervasive negative words can be towards yourself and others

  • Avoid moral connotations when describing foods by using terms such as good or bad.

  • Intentionally decide to commit to using less problematic language. For instance, decrease rumination over your body or purposefully using positive words when describing food or body

  • Make compliments that don’t revolve around peoples’ looks or body, such as complimenting on someone’s personality or energy they bring to a room

  • Refrain from bringing discussions of food and body into conversations and comments

  • Refrain from using the negative words listed above and replace them with my positive word suggestions

  • Remember that everyone is on a different path with their body and with their relationship with food
